about
Sometimes it takes a long time for queer folks to find themselves, and throughout history, due to personal or structural oppression, we can’t always come out—we all have to find our way to that place at different times. Yet there are always folks who will be there for us, who will hold us when we get there, our ancestors and elders along the way guiding us to that garden where we can be free. This song is about letting queer folks who might not be ready know that there is a place for them at the end of the road where everything is in bloom and all of us are waiting with open arms and hearts.
lyrics
Where the Lavender Grows
I was told that freedom comes
From going through the narrowest place
We found each other on the way there
Felt like some kinda mutual grace
But there’s something pulling us in opposite directions
and you can’t predict anything for sure
But if we find our way to any shared tomorrow
There’s somewhere I think we should go
We’ve come together this far
Different paces on the same road
If we stray too much apart
Oh…Meet me where the lavender grows
There’s a stone wall facing sunset
In a field underneath an oak tree
If we get lost or distant
I’ll wait there til you find me
It won’t be hard to get there
It’s as east as you can go
On the island where I was born
Just north of the south shore
We’ve come together this far
Different paces on the same road
If we stray too much apart
Oh… Meet me where the lavender grows
It could be days, it could be months, it could be weeks
Just wait for winter to fade
I’ll come around in the early afternoons
When blossoms bloom in May
I’ll be there every day
No one really goes it alone
No matter how alone we think we are
You and me we’re just like everyone else
Just people trying to make a fresh start
we’ve gone through some of the hardest times
And that can make any distance seem true
But one day we might have a chance to stop running
And I’ll be there waiting for you
We’ve come together this far
Different paces on the same road
If we stray too much apart
Oh…Meet me where the lavender grows
Oh…Meet me where the lavender grows
Meet me where the lavender grows

Matt is my stablemate at Fox Run Studios and a soulful, piano-rockin' man. The sound of his album is what made me choose our shared producer, Neale Eckstein. I love Matt's music! Mya Byrne
Another dear friend, I play in Jesse's NYC band, so I'm biased, but...gosh, I think he's the closest thing our generation has to Jackson Browne. Mya Byrne

1st time i heard DeathWish, i turned it off.
felt rushed, not the Isbell i've come to admire. really grab'd me when i took time to listen on the 2nd try. the writing on these songs stopped me in my tracks more than once. raw talent with just enough polish in the delivery.
thankyou Jason + 400 for another keeper swirlingmadness
